Showing up on page one of Google is likely one of your business goals. But search is changing day-by-day, especially with the introduction of AI and ChatGPT. Many people are now turning to AI for search recommendations. Like with voice search and many other new tech improvements, the field will get more crowded as time passes. So it’s smart to start using these tools and tactics now to get ahead of the game.
Fortunately what is good for SEO is also good for AI platforms. So it’s a bit like killing two birds with one stone.
Intellectual property (IP) is something that AI platforms can learn about, but to get it to show up on ChatGPT or similar AI platforms, you should follow these few steps:
1. Publish High-Quality, Indexed Content Online
- Blogging and Articles: Write detailed, SEO-optimized content on your website, or on platforms like Medium or LinkedIn Articles. ChatGPT often pulls information from well-established sources and public platforms such as these, so jump in a get publishing!
- Press Releases: Distribute press releases about your business and your IP to news outlets for indexing by AI. I also recommend using an online press release platform such as e-releases. With these services, even if your press release isn’t pickup up by the media, posting your releases online makes them useful for SEO and AI.
- Get in the News: Use sites such as The Reporter Exchange or Qwoted to find opportunities for guest comments and to appear in industry-specific articles. Their daily emails will let you reach out if you can help them with a lead or a comment for one of their articles.
- Social Media and Forums: Engaging in conversations on platforms like LinkedIn, Reddit, and industry-specific forums will help you get noticed too. Recently I’ve noticed that a lot of Reddit posts have been showing up on page one of Google search results. What is good for Google is also good for AI.
2. Focus on Volume
- Testimonials and Reviews: Encourage customers to write reviews or share testimonials that mention your IP. Highlight these on your website and social channels for some added benefit.
- Case Studies: Share case studies from clients or customers who have successfully used your IP. These can be turned into blog posts, videos, or infographics–or all of the above!
- Influencer Partnerships: Work with influencers and others in your industry to create content around your IP. This will increase the reach and volume of mentions across various platforms. It also creates good partnerships, which is always helpful in business, right?
- Webinars and Live Streams: Host webinars or live streams with industry experts who can discuss or endorse your IP. Make sure to include the transcript when you publish the page too.
- Forums and Q&A Sites: Participate in industry-specific forums, sub-Reddits, Quora, or other online communities. Provide valuable answers that incorporate your IP and link back to your own website content. That will help you get noticed and also help your SEO.
- Social Media Groups: Join and engage in relevant social media platforms where you can discuss your IP and drive traffic to your site. Facebook, LinkedIn groups, Reddit, YouTube all work for this.
3. List Your Business in Public Databases
- Patents and Trademarks: Register your IP with official bodies such as the Trademark and Patent Office if you’re in the US. These databases are public and may be referenced by AI platforms.
- Industry Directories: Record your business on industry-specific directories and databases that AI models might reference. There are many of these and all depend on your industry. My tip? Look at their domain authority (DA) ranking when choosing where to publish your links. The higher the rank, the more likely they are to show up in search results.
4. Contribute to Online Discussions
- Guest Posting: Write guest posts or contribute to Q&A sites like Reddit and Quora. The more places your content is, the more likely it will be referenced. Quantity matters.
- Interviews and Podcasts: Appear on podcasts, and request transcripts or summaries be posted online. AI models sometimes pull information from popular podcasts and interviews. YouTube video comments are indexed by search engines and by ChatGPT.
5. SEO and Online Visibility
- Keywords: Ensure that your business’s IP is associated with relevant keywords. AI platforms look for specific topics, so make sure your content is optimized.
- Create Content: Write blog posts, create videos, or produce other content that discusses your IP. Do keyword research and use relevant search terms in these pieces.
- Collaborate: Use guest blogging or collaborations where you can link back to your website using targeted keywords.
- Backlinks: Gain backlinks from authoritative sites to increase your content’s visibility and credibility, making it more likely to be used by AI platforms. You can do this by using a tool from Ubersuggest to suggest backlink opportunities, or reach out to guest post on leading industry blogs.
- Use Structured Data: Implement schema markup on your website to help search engines better understand the content of your pages. This can improve your visibility in search results for relevant keywords. This sounds complicated, but there are several WordPress plugins and many free tools to help with schema markup. Speaking from experience, this can make a big difference in search engine results.
While there’s no guaranteed way to have your IP show up in AI responses, all in all, improving your online presence and content visibility are solid steps in the right direction. This will also help your SEO, so it’s a win-win for your efforts!
